Dictation Fellowship Recipient

2025-2026


Thanks to a generous gift from Justina and Ming Wu, the Center for Taiwan Studies at the University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego) is proud to announce the recipients of the Wu Family Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship for the 2025–2026 academic year.

This fellowship program supports outstanding doctoral candidates completing their dissertations on Taiwan-related topics. Recipients are selected for the originality, rigor, and scholarly contribution of their work, with priority given to those not employed full-time or receiving other major grants. Each fellowship provides $30,000 in support, running from September 1, 2025 to August 31, 2026.

Yi-Li Lin — UC San Diego
“Economic Security and the US-China Tech War’s Impact on Taiwan’s Semiconductor Industry: The Case of 5G Communication Chips and Systems.”

Pin-Yi Li — University of Wisconsin–Madison
“Imagining Taiwan in the Museums: Contemporary Taiwan’s National Museums’ Construction of National Identity.”

Fellowship Obligations

Recipients will present their dissertation research in a public book talk hosted by the Center for Taiwan Studies and are expected to acknowledge the Wu Family Dissertation Fellowship in their dissertations and subsequent publications.

Shiu-Ping Ying - $15,000, Institute of Social Research and Cultural Studies, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, Taiwan

I-Lin Liu - $15,000, Media School, Indiana University, Bloomington
